M5 – WESTCONNEX KINGSGROVE

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The New M5 tunnel is Stage 2 of WestConnex, Australia’s largest integrated transport and urban revitalisation project was delivered and successfully opened in 2020.

The joint venture between CPB, Dragados and Samsung had extensive Australian and international experience in tunnelling and major infrastructure delivery.

The New M5 runs via twin tunnels from the existing M5 East at Kingsgrove to a new interchange at St Peters, which more than doubling the corridor capacity and substantially improving east-west corridor access between the Sydney CBD, Port Botany and Sydney Airport precincts and the south-west growth areas.

CARRABAY SCOPE

Carrabay were contracted to carry out works to the Capping beams, whaler beam, planks, walls and tunnel ground slab at portal/cut and cover to the entrance to the twin tunnels at Kingsgrove.

These works took careful planning, organizing logistics and working very closely with adjacent contractors and the client to ensure the works was delivered on time without compromising safety or quality.

Both the client and the head contractor complimented Carrabay on the excellent workmanship and attention to detail ensuring the works were completed as planned.
